Travels of the Red-Haired Warrior Empty
PostSubject: Travels of the Red-Haired Warrior   Travels of the Red-Haired Warrior EmptyMon Nov 15, 2010 9:30 pm

A lonely traveler walked steadily through the thick of the forest, confident in his step and his eyes bright with intelligence below a shock of red hair. He walked straight forward unhesitatingly, one guantleted hand resting on the jeweled hilt of a gleaming sword that hung around his waist. The traveler--a warrior, really--continued on his way, knowing where he journeyed and aware of all the potential threats along the way, and prepared for them.
His journey was interrupted, however, by a hunched figure stumbling into his path and staggering toward him. In alarm, the warrior drew his shining sword, but the figure was nothing but a boy, and he resheathed it, staring at the child with curiosity.
"Please," the child gasped, "I have run a long way and am in need of shelter and company."
The traveler frowned at him in confusion. "Where did you come from, boy?" he asked. "And why didn't you stay there?"
The child shivered at the memory. "I hail from the land of Soluna, the land of the moon and sun, which has since become a wasteland under the harsh rule of the tyrant king O'Connor."
"Wasteland?" the warrior repeated in shock. "Tyrant?" Soluna was the warrior's homeland, and the king O'Connor was his father. The redheaded warrior was Niall O'Connor, prince of the land of Soluna. Niall stared at the boy, bewildered. "You call O'Connor a tyrant?"
"Aye, a bitter tyrant, power-drunk and cruel," the child affirmed with a kind of bitterness. "He takes all our food ad leaves us to starve. His taxes are unpayable, and when we didn't deliver, he exiled us. We've been traveling for days. I became separated from my family some leagues back."
The warrior looked with pity on the child, but his fists clenched with rage. His father, a tyrant. His own flesh and blood, a power-hungry dictator, stealing from the people and exiling those that he should be supporting and helping to sustain themselves. It burned his mind to think it.
"Something must be done," he thought aloud, and the boy looked at him with hope. Niall put a hand on the child's shoulder. "Come," he said. "You may travel with me." And the two of them set out together.

Travels of the Red-Haired Warrior Empty

As night began to creep in, the boy inched uneasily closer to Niall until finally the warrior sighed and picked the boy up, setting him on his hip. He carried the child through the forest until they saw firelight and the boy pointed at it excitedly.
"Let's ask them for shelter tonight, please!" he begged.
Niall considered. If they were hostile, there could be trouble. The people around that fire were of unknown numbers and allegiance. But no tribe was unfriendly enough to attack a small child, so he nodded to his companion and made his way cautiously toward the light.
Before they could see anything they could hear voices coming from the clearing ahead of them, which Niall had determined to be of considerable size. The voices were jovial, and laughter floated through the woods from their fire. When at last he parted the underbrush and came into the circle, the two of them beheld a collection of fighters and warriors of all kinds: the majority of them were human or close to human, but among them were a myriad of other species as well. One of the humans had a long feline tail that waved behind him proudly; on one side of the circle Niall could see a green-skinned goblin-like creature, a pair of what looked to be female halflings, and, hovering hugely over the older halfling's shoulder, a large dragon. Everyone was staring at him in surprise and suspicion, but Niall held up his free hand in a sign of truce, and the boy copied him. The group relaxed a little, and one of the humans--a particularly handsome one, with the air of a natural leader--stepped forward and held out an armored hand.
"Ave, stranger," the man said regally. "I am Tiberius, Grandmaster of Alterra."
Niall raised an eyebrow. "What is Alterra?"
The gentleman smiled and made a sweeping gesture encompassing the entire circle of creatures, who by this time were mostly smiling at him. "This is Alterra!"
A few of the assembled warriors waved friendlily at him, and the child in his arms waved eagerly back, endangering his perch on Niall's hip.
"By what names may we call you?" Tiberius asked.
"My name is Niall O'Connor," the warrior replied.
"And I'm Colin!" squeaked the boy in his arms.
Growing weary of holding the child, Niall set Colin down and the boy immediately scampered toward a pair of females, a blonde with two thin Florentine blades and a brunette with a quiver and bow. The blonde pulled him into her lap and within minutes Colin was fast asleep.
"We seek shelter for the night," Niall explained, and Tiberius nodded.
"We can make a place for you. Sit with us around the fire." He gestured for Niall to sit anywhere and went back to his place beside a man with masses of wavy blonde hair and large blue eyes.

Niall looked for a place to sit and his eyes met those of the tiny females, which he had deduced not to be halflings but simply very small humans. The older of them was particularly lovely, with wild brown hair and shining, intelligent blue eyes. But as he approached her to sit beside her, the greenskinned goblin stepped closer to the girl, menacing at Niall with a crooked sword, and the dragon behind her shot a warning jet of steam at him. As he backed off in surprise, the girl rolled her eyes and pushed the goblin's sword away.
"Leave him alone," she chastised, looking disapprovingly up at the dragon and pushing his face backwards. Both retreated resentfully, watching Niall suspiciously. The girl patted the seat next to her and smiled at Niall, and he cautiously made his way forward and sat down. Both goblin and dragon growled protectively.
"I'm sorry about them," she said, "They're my brothers."
A small clicking noise came from behind the goblin, and when they turned a pale-skinned human waved mutely at the girl and pointed at himself.
"Oh," the girl added, "He's my brother, too. Sorry, Don'Droll."
The human clicked at her once more and nodded his acceptance of her apology. The girl looked back to Niall. "He's a king where he comes from."
"Where is that?" he asked, looking back at him.
"I don't know; he can't speak," the girl answered as the king tried to mouth a long and complicated name at them. "Oh, and this is Glork," she added, patting the goblin's shoulder. He grunted and continued to play with his crooked sword, carving sticks and then breaking them in half when disappointed in how the designs turned out. Niall tried to smile, and waved a little.
"And that's Aodhfin." She pointed back at the dragon behind them, who glared threateningly down at him.
Niall looked curiously about him at her circle of brothers, then asked her quietly, "Do none of your brothers talk?"
"We talk," the goblin said without looking up. "We just ain't gonna talk to you."

This one isn't roleplay, it's folklore. But we can make a roleplay like it if you want.

Ah, okies. Folklore is good too...maybe make a section specifically for Lore, either as part of the Tavern or seperate from it? Either way, I like it. Smile

I also like how the dragon wants to roast the red head.

I figured all three brothers would be a little suspicious if some stranger came up and was like, "ooh, pretty girl. I'm gonna sit over there." Razz

Well of course. I mean, if I don't teach you how to block my shots, or dodge and counter, where's the challenge for me? So, back to the lore! Queenie! Write!
